Leisurely Pace What is the sense of being in a hurry? Although there will be different ideas of how long each stop should be, we have no plan of rushing from place to place. This will require some latitude on everyone’s part, as some will find more interest in a particular place, and vice versa. Also, we try to keep mornings peaceful, giving you time to appreciate the “awakening” of South Dakota.
Small Groups Our average group size is 10.
Flexible Because we have smaller groups, we can change places to visit, alter times, or give you a better chance to explore alone if you wish. There will be ongoing discussions with your fellow travelers and guide regarding itinerary changes.
Time Alone You will have several chances to “go it alone” if you wish; and there will be a few partial days when you will actually be given travel & other certificates so you may do as you wish. Our clients absolutely love this feature.
Interesting Of course we will visit the famous places, but you will also find yourself at the less traveled, extremely interesting places. This is the true nature of the back-roads of South Dakota. Note of course, that you should be fairly active and able to walk medium distances.
Balanced Because we are flexible, you will be part of determining the places we will be visiting. The places mentioned in the itineraries will more than likely be visited, but not absolutely (excepting, of course, the major attractions). You are guaranteed to see the famous sites that will prompt you to say “Wow”, and the not-so-famous places that will probably illicit from you a profound “Hmmm…”
Commission Stops Definitely no commission stops.
Comfortable See <Our Vehicles>. New 2006 custom designed Mini-Coach! Includes comfortable cloth seating, overhead storage, rear storage, PA System, 20" DVD Screen, efficient cooling system and a comfortable ride!!

Our custom designed mini-coaches provide you with a relaxing place in which to view the sights! For smaller groups of 2-5 people, we use new model year mini-vans.
Stay in the Same Place For a Number of Nights We don’t want you to have the feeling of always being in a state of packing and unpacking. So, whenever possible, we stay at one place and use this as a base from which tot travel. Your first and last night’s accommodations in the city where your tour arrives or departs (except on tours of 4 days or less) is included in your price.
Accommodations We will stay at family owned and run Bed & Breakfasts, working family farms, historic/unique inns, or up-scale hotels. Because of the size of South Dakota we make sure that you have access to locals towns and attractions as well.
The places where you will be staying are chosen for their high standards. All rooms are with private baths unless the building age or plan does not permit. If you do share, it will never be with more than one other room. Limited single accommodations are available. Sometimes groups are split between accommodations. See <Our Accommodations>.
Evening Entertainment Visit a local tavern, shows, and much more! See a re-enactment of an Old West gunfight.
Knowledgeable Tour Guides Meet some of our guides <Our Guides>. Our guides have varied backgrounds and are familiar with South Dakota and its history. They are teachers, students, adventurers, authors, etc. The common element of them all is their love of South Dakota and desire to showcase it for you.
Great Food Experience the local cuisine. We dine at local restaurants, taverns, or our accommodations. Your traditional or continental breakfast and a quality two-course evening meal (minimum) are included in your tour price except where listed on the individual itineraries.
Many Departure Dates We have many departure dates, so we are sure that you can find one that fits your vacation plans. Unlike many tour operators, once we have accepted your booking and you have paid your deposit, we guarantee that we will not cancel your tour unless forced to do so by circumstances beyond our control. Rarely, when there are only one or two persons booked on a tour, we will advise you and give you the opportunity of canceling the Back-Roads tour without any charge or transferring to another 605 tour where there will be more participants.
No Hidden Costs Many tour operators advertise an initial low price, and then you find yourself constantly paying for options and extras. We don’t do this. Our tours are designed to be inclusive as possible and we do not expect you to be continually paying for unexpected items. See <Tour Inclusions>.
Client Feedback Read what our past (and probably repeat!) clients say about us and a 605 tour. <Client Feedback>. This will also feature articles from South Dakota Tourism Offices
Area Guests As time and space permits, we will occasionally dine with, or have a local resident be our guest. You can talk to long-time South Dakotans and people of interest. Writers, historians, teachers . . . a wide range of people and backgrounds.
